ABOUT
Hello and welcome! I am so happy that you are considering your voice journey and it's my honour to have you here. I am Dominie - a solo music artist, session musician, collaborator, songwriter, composer, music creator and...
SINGING COACH
I take pride in providing holistic support to my students to not only help them learn about the nuts and bolts of their larynx but discover themselves as an artist.
Most of us were told at some early stage that we must not make noise. Some were told that they "cannot sing" or are "tone-deaf" (tone-deafness is in fact very rare, much like perfect pitch). These words go deep into the psyche of a child and leave them feeling a lack of ownership over their own voice, afraid to try. The voice is our audible representative of our very spirits - to squash this is to squash our very selves. No wonder there are often tears shed when we try to access this and let it fly free.
I am here to tell you that you CAN SING and that tuning is not the holy grail. Come - make some noise!
I also cater to experienced singers and musicians looking to gain more insight or improve technique. Learn about the anatomy of the larynx, how to adjust tone, volume, clarity and enjoy a more consistent and in-control voice.
Additionally, I offer songwriting tuition and support. Technique is the servant of performance, and of expressing yourself. Let's find your voice and tell your story!
My background:
My foundational training was in classical singing (ABRSM Grade 8) and I have further grounding in Estill Voice Training(R). Over the past 10 or so years I have specialsed in English traditional folk singing, whilst keeping a consistent practice in alternative/experimental and contemporary styles.
I have been performing, writing and collaborating for over 20 years, with voice being at the very centre of my practice always. I also play cello, electric guitar and make weird noises with pedals.
I have been teaching voice privately since 2017, as well as running occasional singing workshops and working as a voice and musical director on a variety of theatre, dance and music productions.
I currently lead the Kilburn State Of Mind community choir, London, and my new weird and wonderful Wickerman-drenched folk singing ensemble Oss in Hackney Wick.
